Richard Qian, founder of Botiverse, acknowledged the team misallocated its focus during roughly six months of building Raft (formerly Slock), chasing growth and revenue while raising more capital than needed and relying on KOL marketing he now calls a mistake. In the coming weeks, Botiverse will open-source multiple internal projects and publish Raft's main repository source code, though external pull requests will not be accepted for now. Qian argues that as AI agents take on more development work, the traditional open-source collaboration model of external developers submitting code for maintainers to review and merge may no longer fit.

Botiverse, the team behind agent collaboration app Raft, is pivoting. Founder Richard Qian admitted that after roughly half a year of building Raft (formerly Slock), the team spent too much energy chasing growth and revenue.

He said bluntly the company raised more money than it needed, and that KOL marketing was a mistake. Over the coming weeks, Botiverse will open-source several internal projects and make the Raft main repository public — but it will not accept external pull requests for now.

Qian argues that agents are taking on an increasing share of development work. The old open-source rhythm — outsiders submit code, maintainers review and merge — may no longer apply. Botiverse has already published Raft documentation, external agent plugins, and application scaffolding on GitHub; the main Raft repo is the piece announced for the next stage.
