Bybit Limits EEA Users' Access to Global Services
Crypto exchange Bybit published a notice on June 29, 2026, announcing that it will gradually restrict access to certain Bybit Global services for users resident in the European Economic Area (EEA). The decision is based on ongoing regulatory compliance arrangements, aligning with the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation and other local requirements.
Before implementation, affected users will receive clear notifications detailing the timeline for handling existing and new positions. To ensure user protection, affected individuals will still be able to access their custodial assets on the platform to manage related positions and balances.
Covered Countries and Exceptions
The restriction applies to the following 28 EEA countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
Notably, residents of Malta are not included in this restriction. Bybit explained that Bybit EU, its MiCA-licensed European entity, currently does not extend its license to Malta and does not actively offer products or services to Maltese residents.
Bybit EU's Compliance Strategy
Bybit emphasized that Bybit EU is a regulated European platform operated under a MiCA-licensed entity within the group. It is currently applying for an additional license in Austria to cover a broader range of products. This move indicates Bybit's proactive restructuring of its European operations to comply with MiCA's country-specific regulatory nuances.
This policy adjustment is a significant sign of the crypto industry's reaction to the implementation of MiCA. As MiCA takes full effect, more exchanges are expected to adjust their service terms for EEA users to maintain licensed compliance.
