Rob Hocking, head of global derivatives at CBOE, said the exchange is exploring converting its Bitcoin and Ethereum continuous futures into perpetual futures. The CFTC previously approved Kalshi's crypto perpetuals, opening a regulatory path for other US exchanges.
Rob Hocking, head of global derivatives at the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), revealed that the exchange is actively studying the conversion of its Bitcoin and Ethereum continuous futures contracts into perpetual futures. Perpetual futures are a type of derivative without an expiry date, widely used in the cryptocurrency market as they eliminate the need for contract rollovers.
Earlier, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) approved prediction market Kalshi to offer crypto perpetual futures, creating a regulatory precedent for other registered U.S. exchanges. CBOE, as one of the world's leading derivatives exchanges, is now evaluating this product line. However, Hocking did not provide a timeline for any potential conversion.
