Charles Schwab plans to add Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink to its cryptocurrency trading platform over the next few months, the financial services giant said Thursday. The company did not provide a specific launch date for the three tokens. The expansion follows Schwab's introduction of direct bitcoin and ether trading for some retail clients about three months ago. Until then, those clients were limited to exchange-traded products and shares of companies such as Coinbase and Strategy, with no way to buy cryptocurrencies directly. Joe Vietri, Schwab's head of digital assets, said the new listings will give clients more options for digital asset allocation. Each of the three tokens is being added with a different technical profile: Solana focuses on fast and cheap transactions, Avalanche supports custom blockchain creation for enterprises and developers, and Chainlink connects blockchain networks with external data such as asset prices for smart contracts. Trading will be available through Schwab's website, mobile app and thinkorswim platform, with a fee of 75 basis points (0.75%) per trade.

Charles Schwab said Thursday it plans to add Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink to its cryptocurrency trading platform in the coming months, extending the lineup beyond bitcoin and ether. A specific listing date was not disclosed.

The move lands roughly three months after Schwab opened direct bitcoin and ether trading to some retail clients. Previously, those clients could only gain crypto exposure through exchange-traded products or shares in companies such as Coinbase and Strategy; they could not buy cryptocurrencies directly.

Adding Three Distinct Networks

Joe Vietri, head of digital assets at Schwab, said the additions give clients more choices for digital asset allocation. The three tokens serve different roles: Solana is built around fast, low-cost transactions; Avalanche lets enterprises and developers create customized blockchains; Chainlink connects blockchains to outside data and supplies smart contracts with asset price information.

Where Clients Can Trade

Clients will be able to buy and sell the tokens on the company's website, mobile app and thinkorswim platform. Each trade carries a fee of 75 basis points, or 0.75%.
