Circle, Akamai, American Express, Autodesk, Equinix and Global Payments have joined the Agentic AI Foundation, adding major weight to an industry group focused on the meeting point of AI and financial technology. The foundation says its work centers on open protocols, infrastructure frameworks and operating practices that can support the responsible use of autonomous AI in business. At the same time, leadership is changing, with Amazon Web Services developer experience director David Nalley taking over as board chair.
Circle ties stablecoins to the rise of agentic AI systems
For crypto markets, Circle is the standout addition. The company, known for USDC and blockchain-based payment infrastructure, is pushing projects that connect digital finance with autonomous AI technologies. Li Fan, Circles chief technology and AI officer, said programmable digital money will be a foundational piece of what she described as the “agentic economy.” Her comments tied that shift to two conditions: trusted financial infrastructure and open standards.
Circle said the spread of autonomous AI is increasing demand for open standards and interoperable digital payment infrastructure. In the company’s view, programmable money is set to become a core building block for the next generation of AI-driven systems. By joining the Agentic AI Foundation, Circle is taking part in work on protocols meant to bring stablecoins and digital assets into AI environments with a focus on security and reliability.
New local currency corridors expand Circle’s payment reach
Circle is also widening its global payments network. According to the source material, it is opening new local currency payment corridors across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the United States. The goal is to support the use of stablecoin payments in cross-border commerce. Broader access across more regions could make it easier for digital assets to move from crypto-native activity into everyday commercial flows.
The foundation’s expansion is not framed as a networking exercise. Member companies are trying to define standards that let AI systems interact with financial data, applications and infrastructure in a secure and effective way. Other members, including Diagrid and UiPath, are contributing distributed systems and enterprise automation expertise to the foundation’s open infrastructure efforts.
Membership nears 150 as interoperability becomes the focus
The Agentic AI Foundation now has nearly 150 members, according to the article. Its stated aim is to support AI applications that are secure, transparent and scalable across cloud environments, on-premises systems and blockchain-based infrastructure. Current collaboration is centered on interoperable open standards, safe protocols and supporting toolsets.
That emphasis reflects a practical issue for large organizations: AI adoption is moving faster, while systems remain fragmented across different platforms. The addition of large technology, infrastructure and payments companies suggests the next phase of AI-finance integration is shifting toward common rules and shared technical standards.
