Claude announced that access to the Fable 5 model will be suspended for all users due to a related U.S. government ban. New sessions will switch to the user’s default model or Opus 4.8, while active Fable 5 sessions and API requests will return errors.

According to TechFlow, Claude issued an announcement on June 13 stating that access to the Fable 5 model will be suspended for all users due to a related U.S. government ban. After the change takes effect, users will no longer be able to continue using Fable 5 through Claude. New conversations will be routed to the default model set by the user, or to Opus 4.8 if the relevant default setting is applied.

Claude also said that Fable 5 sessions that have already been opened will end with an error. As a result, conversations currently relying on the model will not continue receiving responses from Fable 5, and users will need to move their work to another available Claude model.

The same restriction applies to Claude Platform API usage involving Fable 5. API requests to Fable 5 will return errors, according to the announcement. Developers are therefore instructed to move related applications and integrations to other Claude models as soon as possible to avoid interruptions in model calls.
