CME Group said its 100-ounce silver futures contract is set to move to 24-hour trading from Sept. 11, 2026, subject to regulatory review. The announcement extends a round-the-clock access model that the exchange recently introduced for its 1-ounce gold futures contract. Jin Hennig, Managing Director and Global Head of Metals at CME Group, said silver sits at the intersection of precious and industrial metals, giving investors both a diversification tool and exposure to macroeconomic news and physical demand. He added that retail demand for around-the-clock access to 1-ounce gold futures helped drive the decision to offer the same trading schedule for silver. CME Group also shared early data from the gold contract rollout: since 24-hour trading for 1-ounce gold futures began on July 24, the added weekend session has handled more than 53,000 contracts with about $219 million in notional value. According to the exchange, that has made it the most liquid weekend market for gold futures.

CME extends round-the-clock access to silver

For investors, it serves as a diversification tool while also responding to macroeconomic news and physical demand. Our retail clients have shown strong demand for being able to trade 1-ounce gold futures whenever they need to, so we are now extending the same 24-hour access to silver to help market participants manage risk and capture opportunity.」
