A pricing glitch on live TV briefly turned XRP into a three-digit asset. During the Jan. 28 episode of CNBC's “Crypto World,” the ticker displayed XRP at $126.01, a 6,532% premium to its real price of $1.90, and instantly lit up trader chatrooms.

How the Error Occurred

The segment was covering the Senate Agriculture Committee's crypto market structure hearing. The on-screen graphic listed XRP at $126.01 with a -3.8% weekly change. Producers later confirmed the team had mistakenly pasted Solana's then-spot value of about $126 into XRP's slot. Meanwhile, Bitcoin was shown at $89,532 (down 0.39% weekly) and Ethereum at $2,996 (down 0.77% weekly).

The visual misprint fed into a long-running subculture among XRP holders who see such glitches as hints of hidden fair value. However, the reporting outlet stressed “this was merely just a display issue on the part of CNBC.” Current prices: Bitcoin at $82,792 (24h range $81,000–$88,029, volume $79.3B), Ethereum near $2,725 (volume $43.0B), XRP around $1.76 (down 6.3% daily, volume $5.4B).

The Ghost Print Catalog

This incident joins a history of XRP price anomalies. In April 2023, Bitrue's futures market briefly printed $0.0001 for XRP. November 2025 saw Kraken wick to $0.00272 during low liquidity. Upside spikes include a TradingView reading of “nearly $9,864” in May 2020 versus actual $0.21, followed by data feed failures that pushed XRP to $161M on CoinMarketCap and Coinbase in Dec 2021, $50 on Gemini in Aug 2023, $34,603 on CoinMarketCap in Oct 2023, $22.50 on Coinbase in Aug 2024, and “more than $21,000” on a live TV broadcast in March 2025.

For derivatives desks, each ghost print is noise. But this noise resonates with the speculative fervor around XRP spot ETFs: analysts have warned ETF demand could absorb ~1% of circulating supply, and in December 2025, XRP ETF assets surpassed $1 billion.
