Coinbase has rolled out direct Indian rupee (INR) deposit and withdrawal services in India, giving retail crypto traders a straight line to local banking rails. The company confirmed that users can now move INR via IMPS (Immediate Payment Service), trade spot markets and perpetual futures, and access dedicated local order books — all without relying on peer-to-peer payment channels.
IMPS Integration Ends P2P Workarounds
Previously, Indian crypto traders often resorted to P2P platforms or OTC desks to convert rupees into digital assets, incurring extra fees and slippage. With IMPS, Coinbase users can deposit and withdraw INR directly from their bank accounts. The exchange has set up dedicated INR order books while keeping the order flow connected to Coinbase's global liquidity pool.
Spot, Perpetuals, and Advanced Tools Go Live
Indian customers can trade spot across multiple crypto assets and also access perpetual futures tied to major digital assets. Alongside these offerings, Coinbase introduced Coinbase Advanced for Indian users, featuring institutional-grade APIs, WebSocket order book streaming, and multiple order types. TradingView charting is integrated, and the company said INR deposits carry zero fees.
Regulatory Compliance First
The launch follows Coinbase's registration with India's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU-IND) and full compliance with the country's crypto tax and reporting framework. This regulatory groundwork means that fund flows through Coinbase now operate under local oversight, not as a gray-market workaround.
Beyond Trading: Investments, Builders, and Startups
Coinbase has been deepening its roots in India for years. It holds an investment in local exchange CoinDCX and supports blockchain development via Base, its Ethereum Layer 2 network. The company said it has committed over $1 million in grants, fellowships, and hackathons to India's builder community, with more than 4,000 developers building on Base. Coinbase also sponsored Indian founders through Network School in Malaysia and funded startup teams presenting at demo events in New York and San Francisco.
Users can complete the entire process in a single workflow: deposit INR, trade spot or futures, and later withdraw funds directly back to their bank accounts. Coinbase stated the service aims to give Indian traders direct local-currency access while leveraging the company's global exchange infrastructure.
