Coinbase has officially launched its stock trading feature for all U.S. users, following a limited test phase that began in December 2025. The move marks a major expansion from a pure crypto exchange into a full-fledged financial services platform.

Full Access to Stock Trading

Users can now trade over 8,000 stocks and ETFs with 24/5 commission-free trading. Transactions can be funded with USD or the stablecoin USDC, and the platform supports fractional share trading, allowing smaller investments in high-priced equities. This puts Coinbase in direct competition with traditional brokers like Robinhood and Webull.

Yahoo Finance Integration

Coinbase has partnered with Yahoo Finance to embed a "Trade [asset] on Coinbase" button on stock and crypto asset pages on Yahoo Finance. Users who click the button are directed to Coinbase to execute trades. Additionally, new users can claim a one-month free trial of Coinbase One Basic, which includes advanced trading tools and priority support.

Bridging Crypto and Traditional Finance

By adding stock trading, Coinbase aims to become a one-stop financial super app, enabling users to manage both crypto and traditional investments in a single interface. The move also creates more utility for USDC, the platform's native stablecoin. Analysts see this as a strategic step to diversify revenue streams and accelerate the convergence of crypto and traditional finance.

The feature is currently available only to U.S. users, with no announced timeline for international rollout. Coinbase's deep compliance expertise and established user base could give it an edge in capturing market share from incumbents.
