Coinbase’s Base network founder Jesse Pollak said the company is the largest non-DAT holder of ether, with a position of 115,000 to 151,000 ETH, worth about $300 million. The remarks came after community criticism that Coinbase has been operating Base while selling ether earned from sequencer revenue and preferring to accumulate bitcoin. Pollak said Coinbase has also contributed to the Ethereum ecosystem through EIP-4844, co-creating USDC, and bringing millions of users to Ethereum.

Coinbase, through Base network founder Jesse Pollak, said the company is the largest non-DAT holder of ether, with holdings of about 115,000 to 151,000 ETH, or roughly $300 million.

Pollak said the position is far larger than that of other non-decentralized autonomous trust entities.

The comments followed criticism from the community that Coinbase has been operating Base while selling ether earned through sequencer revenue, even as it appears to prefer accumulating bitcoin. Pollak countered that Coinbase has contributed to the Ethereum ecosystem in several ways, including participating in the EIP-4844 upgrade, co-creating the USDC stablecoin, and bringing millions of users to Ethereum.
