Japanese cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck said it has completed registration for electronic payment instruments and related transaction services under registration No. 00002 issued by the director-general of the Kanto Local Finance Bureau. The approval makes Coincheck the second operator in Japan, after SBI VC Trade, to obtain the license required to handle stablecoins.
Coincheck had previously announced a partnership with Circle to support USDC. With the registration now completed, its stablecoin business has formally gone live. The development gives Coincheck the regulatory footing needed to move ahead with stablecoin handling in Japan.
SBI VC Trade, which received registration No. 00001, completed its own registration on March 4 this year. It has already filed to handle stablecoins including USDC and RLUSD. The update was carried by CoinPost and cited by Techub News.
