Consensys and Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin have joined DeFi United with a commitment of up to 30,000 ETH to support the recovery of rsETH after the bridge incident on April 18. The contribution was disclosed on April 27 and is aimed at closing the backing gap created by the incident while supporting affected users.
DeFi United, announced on April 23, was launched as a coordinated recovery effort initiated by Aave service providers. The group now includes more than 14 ecosystem participants, among them Aave DAO, Lido, Etherfi, Ethena, Mantle, Ink Foundation, Tydro, Golem Foundation, Golem Project, and Frax. Nasdaq-listed Sharplink, which trades under the ticker SBET, has joined in an advisory role to help structure the recovery plan.
Capital is being made available before governance finishes
The up to 30,000 ETH from Consensys and Lubin is designed to put funds to work without waiting for every governance process to conclude. Approval tracks across affected protocols are still moving ahead in parallel, but the recovery effort can continue immediately instead of being held up by a single voting timeline.
Aave Labs founder Stani Kulechov acknowledged the contribution directly. He said financial support from leading ecosystem participants makes capital available to the recovery effort without delay, adding that progress would not be where it is without that backing. He also said the contribution supports the goal of making rsETH holders whole and normalizing market conditions.
Lubin calls Ethereum antifragile
Lubin described the moment as a demonstration of what Ethereum can do when participants coordinate. In comments shared with Bitcoin.com News, he said Ethereum’s technology and ecosystem are “antifragile,” and that the network will keep adapting and evolving while continuing to harden its foundations.
He also said the Ethereum ecosystem has consistently been strongest when it moves together, describing DeFi United as a broad and coordinated response meant to protect users and reinforce infrastructure built across the ecosystem.
Recovery effort spans institutions and individuals
The April 18 incident left rsETH with a backing shortfall that required a coordinated DeFi response. Rather than relying on a single protocol or governance body, DeFi United is combining capital and expertise from across the Ethereum ecosystem to close that gap.
Individual contributors are part of the effort as well. Stani Kulechov and Emilio Frangella are listed alongside institutional participants, while BGD Labs and thousands of DeFi community members have also reportedly committed. Funding and governance updates are expected to continue through defiunited.world.
Sharplink’s advisory role adds a planning layer as the coalition works through funding, governance, and technical channels at the same time. The participant list now stretches across liquid staking protocols, stablecoin projects, layer-2 networks, and individual backers, showing how widely the rsETH recovery effort has spread across Ethereum.
