Consensys has entered a strategic partnership with ClearToken, a UK-based market infrastructure group focused on digital and traditional assets, to support round-the-clock settlement for wholesale financial markets. According to the announcement cited by BlockBeats on Oct. 9, the two companies aim to help banks move tokenized assets and cash onto infrastructure that can operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, while meeting requirements around legal certainty, risk controls, and compliance.
Under the arrangement, Consensys will provide cryptographic protections designed to make on-chain transaction records tamper-resistant, while ClearToken will work on the legal finality and irrevocability of transfers of funds and assets. The plan also involves ClearToken CSD Limited, which will rely on approval from phase two of the Bank of England’s Digital Securities Sandbox to support the tokenization of eligible securities held by different banks and recognize them as fungible, unified financial instruments. Together with ClearToken Depository Limited, an FCA-authorized payment institution within the group, the partnership is intended to support delivery-versus-payment settlement between securities and cash using fiat currency, tokenized deposits, and stablecoins.
Consensys and ClearToken, a UK group building market infrastructure for digital and traditional assets, have formed a strategic partnership to provide always-on settlement infrastructure for wholesale financial markets, according to an official announcement cited by BlockBeats on Oct. 9.
The stated goal is to help banks move tokenized assets and cash onto infrastructure that runs 24/7 while meeting wholesale market requirements for legal certainty, risk control, and compliance.
Partnership combines blockchain finality with legal settlement finality
Under the cooperation plan, the two sides will combine blockchain technical finality with settlement finality. Consensys will provide cryptographic safeguards to ensure that on-chain transaction records cannot be altered. ClearToken, for its part, is focused on ensuring that transfers of funds and assets carry legal finality and are irrevocable.
Plan covers tokenized securities and DvP settlement
ClearToken CSD Limited will rely on approval granted under phase two of the Bank of England’s Digital Securities Sandbox to support the tokenization of eligible securities held by different banks. Those securities are intended to be recognized as unified financial instruments with fungibility.
Working alongside ClearToken Depository Limited, a payment institution in the group that is authorized by the UK Financial Conduct Authority, the companies also plan to support delivery-versus-payment, or DvP, settlement between those securities and cash. Settlement assets will include fiat currency, tokenized deposits, and stablecoins, with the system designed to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
