Consensys and Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin have officially joined DeFi United, pledging up to 30,000 ETH (approximately $450 million) to support the restoration of rsETH reserves. The initiative aims to fill the gap left by a bridge incident on April 18. As of April 27, more than 14 major protocols and individual participants had joined, including Aave DAO, Lido, Etherfi, Ethena, Mantle, and others.
1. Massive Ecosystem Collaboration
According to a Monday announcement, Consensys' contribution is immediately available without waiting for governance processes. Stani Kulechov (Aave founder) personally donated 5,000 ETH, while Mantle Network provided 30,000 ETH in reserves. Nasdaq-listed Sharplink (ticker SBET) joined as an advisor to help structure the recovery plan.
Kulechov expressed gratitude for Consensys' involvement: "The financial backing from these leading ecosystem participants makes funds available for the recovery effort without delay; recovery would not progress as it is without them." He emphasized that the goal is to fully compensate rsETH holders and normalize market conditions.
2. Accelerated Governance and Multi-Track Progress
DeFi United was announced on April 23, initiated by Aave service providers to unite capital and expertise across the Ethereum ecosystem. Participants include Lido, Etherfi, Ethena, Mantle, Ink Foundation, Tydro, Golem Foundation, Golem Project, and Frax. Individual contributors like Kulechov and Emilio Frangella are also involved.
Lubin framed the crisis as a test of ecosystem resilience: "Ethereum technology and ecosystem are antifragile. It performs best when participants act in coordination." He added that Consensys is proud to contribute alongside other ecosystem stewards.
3. Bridge Incident and Recovery Path
The April 18 bridge incident created a gap in rsETH backing, requiring a coordinated DeFi-wide response. DeFi United accelerates recovery by pooling capital from protocols like Aave DAO, Lido, and Etherfi. Governance approvals are proceeding in parallel across affected protocols, while Consensys' 30,000 ETH commitment buys time for these processes.
Updates on funding and progress will be published at defiunited.world. The community, including BGD Labs and thousands of DeFi members, has also pledged involvement.
