Total Liquidations: $115 Million in Dual-Direction Wipeout
According to data from Coinglass, the global crypto market witnessed a massive wave of liquidations in the past 24 hours, with total liquidations reaching $115 million. The liquidation breakdown shows a nearly symmetrical pattern: long positions accounted for $57.31 million, while short positions accounted for $57.27 million — a difference of just $42,000. This suggests that the market experienced sharp bidirectional volatility, forcing leveraged positions to be cleared on both sides.
Bitcoin vs Ethereum: BTC Shorts Suffer More, ETH Bulls Take the Hit
For Bitcoin specifically, short liquidations totaled $15.997 million, significantly exceeding long liquidations of $10.215 million — shorts were 1.57x more impacted. This points to a squeeze on Bitcoin short positions amid a bounce or oscillatory movement. Ethereum saw the opposite pattern: long liquidations of $17.374 million vs short liquidations of $13.506 million, indicating a price decline that forced long holders to exit.
Notably, Ethereum’s total liquidation ($30.88 million) surpassed Bitcoin’s ($26.21 million), with both coins accounting for approximately 49.6% of total liquidations. The remainder came from altcoin and other derivative contracts.
Liquidation Count and Largest Single Order: 55,741 Traders Impacted, Whale Exits on Binance
In the last 24 hours, 55,741 traders were liquidated, with an average liquidation size of about $2,064 — reflecting participation from both retail and medium-sized accounts. The largest single liquidation order occurred on Binance’s ETHUSDT perpetual contract, valued at $1,887,600. This whale-sized position was likely held by a high-leverage institutional account or a large trader, which was caught in the cascading volatility.
Market analysts note that such large-scale bidirectional liquidations typically occur after significant macro events or technical breakout points. Although no clear catalyst has been identified, the elevated volatility raises caution for funding rates and short-term sentiment, urging traders to maintain prudent leverage management in the coming sessions.
