After Claude Mods went live, DeepSeek Harness team lead Cui Tianyi said the thinking behind the two systems is starting to converge. He said a Mod inside Claude Code is still, in essence, a plugin, while DeepSeek Harness was built from the start with the entire Agent Harness structured around a plugin mechanism. In his view, the main difference now lies in how much of the system is open. Claude Code currently exposes only part of its capabilities as Mods, while DeepSeek Harness has turned the model, tools, Skills, sessions, sandbox, file system, Agent Loop, orchestration, and UI into plugins that can be swapped, combined, and extended. Cui also pointed to DeepSeek Harness’s Creator Mode, which lets an Agent inspect the current runtime, write plugins on the spot, and save them for later use. He joked that what used to be called "Plugin Engineering" might now also be called "Mod Engineering."

After Claude Mods launched, DeepSeek Harness team lead Cui Tianyi said the two sides are increasingly arriving at similar ideas.

He said that in Claude Code, a Mod is still essentially a plugin. DeepSeek Harness, by contrast, was built from the beginning with the entire Agent Harness based on a plugin mechanism.

According to Cui, the main gap at this stage is the scope of openness. Claude Code currently exposes only some capabilities as Mods. DeepSeek Harness has instead made the model, tools, Skills, sessions, sandbox, file system, Agent Loop, orchestration, and UI all into plugins, allowing them to be replaced, combined, and extended freely.

DeepSeek Harness officially describes this architecture as 「Everything is a Plugin」.

Cui also said DeepSeek Harness’s Creator Mode allows an Agent to inspect the current runtime directly, write a plugin on the spot, and save it. With that, the Agent can modify the UI, adjust the Agent Loop, add tools, and even change the orchestration method.

He joked that what used to be called "Plugin Engineering" might now also be called "Mod Engineering."
