Cynthia Lummis, the newly elected U.S. Senator from Wyoming, has made it a priority to educate her colleagues in Congress about Bitcoin. In a recent interview with Fox News, she stated that she wants everyone to understand that Bitcoin is a 'great store of value.' Lummis, a Republican and the first woman to represent Wyoming in the Senate, previously served in the House of Representatives for eight years.

Bitcoin Education as a Legislative Priority

When asked about her top priorities in the Senate, Lummis mentioned working on reducing the national debt and deficit, and added: 'I also plan to explain to my colleagues about bitcoin. I know there isn’t much known about bitcoin especially in Congress. So I want to make sure everybody understands that this is a great store of value.' She argued that Bitcoin allows Americans to diversify their assets and hold a form of value not subject to the inflation that erodes the U.S. dollar.

Lummis purchased her first Bitcoin in 2013 and remains a committed holder. She has previously praised Bitcoin's innovative decentralized public ledger and fixed supply, calling it a promising alternative store of value at both institutional and personal levels.

Crypto for Congress Initiative

Lummis's announcement coincides with a broader push to increase cryptocurrency literacy among lawmakers. In October 2020, the Chamber of Digital Commerce launched 'Crypto for Congress, ' providing each of the 535 members of Congress with $50 worth of Bitcoin to expand adoption and understanding of digital assets.

As a Bitcoin advocate in the Senate, Lummis could help shape more favorable regulatory policies. She views Bitcoin not only as an investment but as a hedge against inflation and fiscal irresponsibility. While skepticism remains within Congress, Lummis's presence offers a significant boost for cryptocurrency advocates seeking mainstream political acceptance.
