CZ says self-motivation matters most in Binance hiring, especially for remote roles

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, better known as CZ, said self-motivation is a key trait he values when thinking about hiring at Binance, particularly for remote positions. Speaking on Aug. 27 at an offline book meetup for "Binance Life" in Hong Kong, CZ said many people ask about the company’s hiring logic, though he noted that he is no longer deeply involved in selecting candidates. Still, he gave a clear personal view. Remote jobs can create room for employees to slack off, he said, and if a worker is not proactive enough, two months may pass without much to show. CZ added that he does not usually chase people for updates. Instead, he waits for them to report progress and present their work. His remarks framed initiative as a core standard in his view of recruitment: employees should not wait for a boss to come check performance before taking action.
