Changpeng Zhao, widely known as CZ, said at the Bitcoin Asia 2026 conference that he believes Bitcoin will eventually become more important than gold, while warning that major countries will need years to make that shift. He said governments already have long-established systems for valuing and holding gold, which makes any move toward Bitcoin or other crypto assets a gradual process rather than an immediate one.
CZ argued that Bitcoin is "a much better asset than gold" on its own merits. He added that there is a very small chance a superior alternative could overtake Bitcoin before Bitcoin surpasses gold, such as another digital currency growing faster than BTC. Still, based on what he sees today, he said the odds of that happening are quite low.
He also said Bitcoin may pass gold sooner than many expect. According to CZ, the gap between the two is currently about 10x, and he suggested that the next bull market could be the point when that change happens.
Changpeng Zhao, or CZ, said at the Bitcoin Asia 2026 conference that he believes Bitcoin will eventually become more important than gold, though large countries will need time to make that transition.
CZ said nations already have a full system in place for valuing and holding gold, and that changing such a framework takes years. A shift toward Bitcoin or broader crypto assets will not happen immediately, he said, but added that "it will happen."
He described Bitcoin itself as "a much better asset than gold." At the same time, CZ said there is a very small possibility that something better than Bitcoin could replace it, such as another digital currency growing faster than Bitcoin and overtaking it before Bitcoin surpasses gold. Based on everything visible today, however, he said the probability of that scenario is quite low.
CZ also said he thinks Bitcoin will surpass gold soon. In his view, the gap between the two is now only about 10x, adding: "Who knows, maybe it will happen in the next bull market."
