Darkfost said in a post on X that Bitcoin is moving close to the average cost basis of two distinct holder groups. The average cost for investors who have held BTC for 18 months to two years stands at about $88,350, while the average for the six- to 12-month cohort is around $89,200. He said cost basis represents the group’s average entry price rather than a built-in support or resistance level. Still, as Bitcoin trades near that range, holder behavior could start to shift, making it a potential risk zone. Darkfost also noted that the six- to 12-month cohort has been underwater for nearly a year. Some of those investors may have bought near local highs. As price returns toward breakeven, some may choose to sell after recovering losses, while others may keep buying to lower their average cost.

According to ChainCatcher, Darkfost said in a post on X that Bitcoin is approaching the average cost basis of two holder cohorts.

The average cost basis for investors who have held BTC for 18 months to two years is about $88,350. For holders in the six- to 12-month group, the figure is around $89,200.

Darkfost said cost basis reflects the average holding cost of a cohort and is not inherently a support or resistance level. Even so, as price moves closer to that range, behavior from those investors could change, making the area a potential risk zone.

He added that the six- to 12-month holder cohort has remained at a loss for nearly a year, and some investors in that group may have bought near market highs. As price returns to breakeven, some may sell after recovering losses, while others may continue buying to reduce their average holding cost.
