Deel has launched stablecoin salary payouts powered by BVNK and created a dedicated crypto division led by Thierry Edde. The feature is now available to Deel Employer of Record and global payroll customers with employees in the United States and across the eurozone, with more regions expected later this year.
Stablecoin salary payouts are now built into Deel’s payroll stack
According to Deel, employers only need to switch the feature on once, while employees opt in once to receive recurring salary payments in supported stablecoins through compatible wallets. Compliance, settlement, and payout processing are handled in the background, so companies do not need to change their existing payroll workflows.
Thierry Edde said payroll infrastructure needs to adapt to the way companies and workers operate globally. He described stablecoin pay as something workers increasingly want and employers increasingly need to offer, adding that businesses on Deel can provide that option without taking on new administrative work.
Deel says crypto payouts reached $250 million in 2025
Deel disclosed that it processed $250 million in crypto payouts during 2025, with demand rising year over year. The company also said that USD appeared in five of the ten most common country-currency combinations on its platform, pointing to broader use of dollar-linked compensation outside the US.
The company said this latest product builds on infrastructure introduced in January 2026, which allowed businesses to fund payroll using stablecoin treasuries without foreign exchange conversion. The new rollout extends that setup to workers themselves, letting employers fund payroll in fiat or stablecoins while employees choose how they want to be paid.
Payroll providers are pushing deeper into payment infrastructure
The launch shows how payroll and HR technology providers are moving closer to fintech infrastructure. Cross-border payroll still comes with foreign exchange costs, settlement delays, banking restrictions, and fragmented compliance requirements. Stablecoins offer an alternative settlement rail that can clear faster and reduce some of the friction tied to multi-layer currency conversion.
Chris Harmse, Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer at BVNK, said payroll remains one of the last major financial workflows still constrained by legacy rails. In his view, the partnership with Deel is not only adding a payout option, but building scalable and compliant infrastructure for modern payroll delivery.
More broadly, stablecoins are being used across remittances, B2B payments, collateral management, treasury operations, and salary distribution in emerging markets. Deel’s decision to establish a standalone crypto unit suggests the company sees blockchain-enabled payroll as a larger part of global workforce management, rather than a niche tool limited to crypto-native businesses.
