DeFiLlama has held back its official mobile app release because phishing apps impersonating the project have remained on Apple’s App Store, according to founder 0xngmi. He said the team decided not to launch until all fake apps are removed, aiming to reduce the risk of users being scammed. 0xngmi also described the team’s efforts to get one fraudulent app taken down. He said they spent months reporting the app to Apple for trademark infringement and impersonation of the official DeFiLlama product. The team later funded a small wallet, downloaded the app, and found that the wallet’s funds were fully stolen, which they then reported to Apple. According to him, the app was removed within a few days after that report. He added that he wanted other crypto companies to know about the experience so they would not waste time in the same way.

Founder details takedown efforts

In comments shared a day earlier, 0xngmi said: 「We had been trying for months to get Apple’s App Store to remove a fake app impersonating DeFiLlama, while repeatedly reporting trademark infringement and impersonation of the official app. We then funded a small wallet, downloaded the app, and, as expected, all funds in that wallet were stolen. We reported that result to Apple, and within a few days the app was removed. I hope other crypto companies learn this so they do not waste time the way we did.」
