DeFiLlama founder 0xngmi said on X that Apple’s App Store review and complaint process failed to remove a fake DeFiLlama application for months, even after his team repeatedly reported it for trademark infringement and for impersonating the official app. According to his account, those earlier complaints did not lead to effective action from Apple. The team then took the extra step of downloading and using the app themselves. After depositing a small amount of funds into it, they said the wallet assets were stolen, matching their expectation that the app was malicious. Once they had confirmed that behavior, they filed another report with Apple. 0xngmi said the fake app was then removed from the App Store within a few days. The post was framed as a direct criticism of Apple’s app review mechanism, with the founder arguing that repeated reports alone were not enough to get the impersonating app taken down before users were exposed to risk.

DeFiLlama founder raises concerns over Apple’s App Store review process

Odaily reported that DeFiLlama founder 0xngmi posted on X to question how Apple handles App Store reviews and complaints.

He said his team spent months trying to get a fake DeFiLlama app removed from Apple’s App Store. During that period, they submitted multiple complaints alleging trademark infringement and impersonation of the official application, but those reports did not produce an effective response.

Fake app was removed only after the team tested it and reported theft

According to 0xngmi, the DeFiLlama team eventually downloaded and used the fake app themselves. They then deposited a small amount of funds into the application and, as expected, had wallet assets stolen.

After confirming that the app was malicious, the team filed another report with Apple. The fake app was then taken down by Apple within a few days, he said.
