Ethereum trading has shifted decisively to derivatives, with futures volumes now running roughly seven times higher than spot markets, analyst Darkfost reports. Open interest has climbed to 6.4 million ETH, approaching the July 2025 peak of 7.8 million ETH. The growing reliance on leveraged positions over direct asset purchases highlights a market adjusting to persistent global uncertainty.
Spot-to-Futures Ratio Hits Year Low
On Binance, the spot-to-futures ratio dropped to 0.13, the lowest level this year. Every dollar traded on spot now corresponds to about $7 moving through futures contracts. This imbalance emerged as early April 2026 saw heightened volatility across traditional and crypto markets.
Binance Holds 36% of Open Interest
Binance alone accounts for 2.3 million ETH in open interest, representing roughly 36% of total derivatives activity. Such concentration underscores the exchange's dominant grip on Ethereum's futures market, meaning any sharp moves on Binance could trigger cascading liquidations.
Price Recovery Meets Resistance
Ether recovered from below $2,000, forming higher lows into early April. After a sharp retreat to the $2,040 support zone on April 2, the price consolidated between $2,040 and $2,080 before breaking above the latter. Price now challenges the $2,130 resistance level, which serves as a near-term ceiling. A clean breakout could open the way toward $2,150.
Technical Signals: RSI Nears Overbought, MACD Bullish
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) sits at 68.55, approaching the overbought threshold of 70. Strong buying pressure underpins the uptrend, but momentum could wane if the RSI crosses above 70 without a corresponding price surge. Meanwhile, the MACD shows a bullish crossover with a positive histogram, confirming upward strength. Key supports lie at $2,080 and $2,040, with resistance in the $2,130–$2,150 band.
