The gas limit is a core measure of how much computation Ethereum can include in each block. Raising that ceiling from 60 million to roughly 200 million would allow the mainnet to process significantly more transactions and smart contract activity per block. If follow-up scaling efforts move ahead, Ethereum’s base-layer throughput could expand even further.
Mainnet fees may stay near zero
The report suggests that if network demand does not grow in proportion to the added capacity, Ethereum mainnet gas fees could remain near zero for the foreseeable future. For users and on-chain applications, that would mean lower transaction and execution costs, potentially improving usability and making the network more accessible for a wider range of activity.
