Ethereum supporters used CoinDesk’s Consensus conference in Toronto to respond to criticism of the network’s leadership and development roadmap. The discussion came as Ether’s price had declined and some developers had shifted toward competing platforms, adding pressure to the debate around Ethereum’s direction.

L2 scaling and lower fees frame the response

The report highlighted that Ethereum’s Layer 2 ecosystem has pushed transaction fees below one cent. Supporters presented this as evidence of Ethereum’s ability to scale. Josh Stark of the Ethereum Foundation and Paul Brody, EY’s global blockchain leader, described an optimistic outlook and emphasized Ethereum’s innovation and expansion capacity.

Despite the challenges facing the ecosystem, Stark and Brody maintained that the market will eventually recognize Ethereum’s deeper value. The Ethereum Foundation is also undergoing a leadership restructuring aimed at strengthening its strategic focus.
