EF’s latest framing of Ethereum
The Ethereum Foundation said that many digital services today still rely on centralized intermediaries. While that model can be operationally straightforward, it also creates structural vulnerabilities, including single points of failure, exposure to cyberattacks, and susceptibility to political pressure. Based on that assessment, EF argues that Ethereum is increasingly becoming the kind of neutral infrastructure that governments and institutions need.


Why Ethereum fits institutional public-use scenarios
In EF’s view, Ethereum’s key advantage lies in its decentralized architecture. Critical systems do not have to depend entirely on a single operator, which can improve resilience in environments where trust, governance complexity, and long-term continuity matter. For governments and large institutions, that neutrality can be especially relevant when building services that require transparency, verifiability, and durability over time.

EF specifically pointed to digital identity, public records, and asset tokenization. These are all areas that often involve coordination across departments, agencies, or institutions. When such systems rely too heavily on centralized platforms, they may face higher risks from outages, attack vectors, or external intervention. By contrast, Ethereum is being presented as a more suitable base layer for public digital infrastructure where neutral execution and shared trust assumptions are important.
