Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has updated the project's roadmap by comparing his 2023 version with the current Strawmap. The refreshed outline shows a clear shift in priorities. Quantum safety has been elevated to a top-tier concern, with plans for aggressive scaling and signature aggregation designs built for a post-quantum context. For the first time, strong privacy is treated as a first-class goal, spanning keyed nonces, recent state roots, privacy pools, and the so-called wormhole approach. The update also ties AI to formal verification, aiming to accelerate the process and slim down the specification. Recursive STARKs are set to become base infrastructure across the execution, consensus, and data layers. The roadmap also introduces new state types, native rollups, blob and gas futures, and a post-EVM design space for instruction sets such as leanISA and RISC-V. Taken together, these moves put quantum resistance, user privacy, and verification tooling at the center of Ethereum's near-term technical agenda, while preserving room for major design changes beyond the current EVM model.
