Hon Hai Precision Industry said on Oct. 12, through its overseas investment holding subsidiary Foxconn (Far East) Limited, that it had disposed of shares in PCB maker Zhen Ding Technology Holding. According to the filing, the company sold 5,544 lots of Zhen Ding shares over the past month or so, generating total transaction proceeds of about NT$3.243 billion and estimated disposal gains of NT$2.683 billion.
Sale covered Sept. 1 to Oct. 12
The disclosure said Foxconn (Far East) Limited sold a total of 5,544,000 common shares of Zhen Ding Technology in the open market from Sept. 1, 2026 to Oct. 12, 2026. That equals about 5,544 lots. The average transaction price was NT$584.96 per share, bringing the total deal value to around NT$3.243 billion.
Based on the recognized disposal gain of NT$2.683 billion, the original acquisition cost for the shares was estimated at about NT$101 per share. The filing explicitly listed the purpose of the transaction as "realizing investment gains."
Hon Hai remains the largest single institutional shareholder
Attention has centered on whether the sale signals any change in the relationship between the two companies. After the transaction, Hon Hai still held 299,971,627 common shares of Zhen Ding, representing a 26.47% stake. The shares carry no pledge or other rights restrictions, according to the report.
For accounting purposes, Zhen Ding remains an equity-method investee of Hon Hai. The report said Hon Hai still sits firmly as Zhen Ding’s largest single institutional shareholder, and that ties between the two companies remain intact in board operations, major business decisions, and supply-chain vertical integration for core clients including Apple.
Transaction adds funds for broader capital deployment
The article said Foxconn (Far East) Limited is a core overseas holding platform for the Hon Hai group’s global investments and capital operations. Hon Hai has been pushing its "3+3" transformation strategy in recent years, covering electric vehicles, digital health, robotics, as well as AI, semiconductors, and next-generation communications. At the same time, the group has been committing substantial capital expenditure to AI servers and diversified overseas manufacturing bases.
Against that backdrop, the disposal of part of its holdings in a mature investment at elevated share-price levels would contribute investment disposal income while also giving the group more flexibility to reallocate capital to areas with higher growth potential.
