Core Cause: Strategy's Financing Model Under Pressure
Mike Novogratz, CEO of Galaxy Digital, stated that the core reason for Bitcoin's recent decline is a "crisis of confidence triggered by Strategy." The issue extends beyond Bitcoin's price; concerns over Strategy's financing model are spreading. As the largest publicly traded corporate holder of Bitcoin, Strategy's stock and preferred securities have become key indicators for traders assessing Bitcoin market risk. The company's Bitcoin flywheel has already been under strain, with its stock trading at a discount to its Bitcoin holdings, challenging the "premium equity issuance to buy more Bitcoin" model it has relied on for years. Novogratz noted that STRC trading has been weak and should be around $100. Currently, Strategy's annual dividend obligations have risen to approximately $1.2 billion, and declining cash reserves have reduced its dividend coverage period to only about 14 months.
Macro and Technical Headwinds
Bitcoin also faces macro pressure. Novogratz summarized the current market logic as "strong dollar means weak Bitcoin," with hawkish central bank signals and dollar strength suppressing demand for risk assets. Technically, the $59,000–$60,000 range has become a critical defense line for Bitcoin. If broken, downside could open to $45,000. This level is seen as a key battleground, and a breach would likely trigger mass liquidations.
Fragile Sentiment and Outlook
Novogratz acknowledged the current situation is complex, with rebound and deep correction probabilities roughly 50-50. ETF outflows, thinning liquidity, and cautious positioning in the options market further confirm fragile market sentiment. The health of Strategy's balance sheet, STRC price performance, and cash position are now more than a company-specific issue—they have evolved into a barometer of overall Bitcoin market confidence. Investors should watch upcoming macroeconomic data and any strategic moves by Strategy.
