Bitcoin is trading near $78,600 after moving above $80,000, and has largely held on to the strong gains that began from the $64,000 area in late August, according to a Sept. 1 note from Glassnode cited by BlockBeats.
Institutional demand remains firm while trading activity cools in pockets
Glassnode said the broader digital asset market still reflects strong institutional demand, though activity in both spot and derivatives markets has cooled in some areas. At the same time, price momentum has moved clearly above the upper end of its statistical range.
The firm added that secondary-market turnover and spot cumulative volume delta, or CVD, suggest the balance of aggressive buying may be changing. Retail participation has also weakened.
Regulated products keep drawing inflows as short-term capital returns
Traditional finance capital is still flowing into regulated crypto investment products. Holdings in U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds remain profitable and have continued to post weekly net inflows.
At the same time, shorter-term capital that is more sensitive to price is starting to enter the market. Glassnode said this is occurring alongside elevated options open interest and a rapid narrowing in volatility spreads, a setup that may indicate market participants are underestimating near-term volatility risk.
On-chain settlement is active, but user participation is softer
On-chain data shows what Glassnode described as a pattern of active settlement but weaker user participation. Entity-adjusted transfer volume remains well above normal levels, while daily active addresses and total fee revenue have both slipped slightly.
Bitcoin market shifts into a more divided phase
In Glassnode's view, Bitcoin is moving from a period of strong upside into a stage marked by structural divergence. Continued institutional allocation and a rebound in on-chain valuation are still supporting the market.
But speculative leverage is building, and signs of selling from short-term capital are beginning to appear. The underlying market backdrop remains solid, though the risk of near-term volatility and pullbacks is rising.
