GoPlus Security said in a post on X that THORChain should not directly compare its level of decentralization with Bitcoin or Ethereum when arguing that it cannot stop illicit fund flows. The security firm said THORChain’s outbound transactions rely on threshold signatures from a relatively small set of active validators, and added that the protocol already includes mechanisms such as pause functions, single-chain signing halts, and governance tools. GoPlus also pointed to a past intervention case during a THORChain exploit, arguing that the protocol’s existing emergency framework could be used to stop flows identified by the FBI or the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, or OFAC, as being linked to North Korea. GoPlus challenges THORChain’s decentralization argument

According to GoPlus, THORChain’s outbound transactions depend on threshold signatures controlled by a relatively small set of active validators. The firm added that the protocol itself already contains pause functions, single-chain signing halts, and governance mechanisms.

Past intervention cited

GoPlus also referenced a previous intervention during a security incident in which THORChain itself was exploited. Based on the protocol’s existing emergency framework, it said, flows identified by the FBI or the Office of Foreign Assets Control as linked to North Korea could be blocked.
