Grab plans to acquire Foodpanda Taiwan for $600 million in cash, with closing expected in the second half of 2026 pending regulatory approval. The deal also puts focus on whether Grab’s Web3 wallet and crypto payment tools could later enter Taiwan.

Grab Holdings and Delivery Hero said Grab will acquire Foodpanda’s Taiwan business in a $600 million all-cash deal. The transaction is expected to take effect in the second half of 2026 after regulatory approval. It will mark Grab’s first move beyond Southeast Asia, with Taiwan becoming its ninth market.

The deal is being executed on a cash-free, debt-free basis. Delivery Hero said net proceeds will be used for debt repayment and general corporate purposes, while JP Morgan is serving as financial adviser. Grab co-founder and CEO Anthony Tan pointed to Taiwan’s 23 million population, strong demand for mobile services, and dense urban environment as a close fit with Grab’s experience in high-density city logistics.

Foodpanda Taiwan brings scale and positive adjusted EBITDA

According to the announcement, Foodpanda Taiwan generated about €1.5 billion in GMV in 2025, or roughly $1.8 billion. Its full-year adjusted EBITDA turned positive. That gives Grab an asset with operating traction rather than just a larger map presence.

Migration plans have also been outlined. Consumers, merchants, and delivery partners on Foodpanda Taiwan are set to move onto the Grab platform, with completion targeted for the first half of 2027. Both companies said they will carry out extensive preparation to avoid business disruption during the transition.

Grab already has Web3 wallet and crypto on-ramp infrastructure

Grab’s business is broader than ride-hailing or food delivery. Founded in 2012, the company has expanded into grocery delivery, digital payments, and financial services. The source material says Grab serves tens of millions of users each month and its ecosystem generates $18.8 billion in economic value annually.

For crypto users, the more notable detail is that Grab has already embedded a Web3 wallet in its app and supports NFT collectibles, with a target reach of 180 million users. In the Philippines, users can fund accounts through GrabPay with BTC, ETH, USDC, and USDT, then convert into fiat instantly. Grab has also said it is studying broader support for digital assets.

Taiwan crypto payment rollout remains an open question

There is still no official statement saying Grab will bring the same Web3 wallet or crypto payment stack into Taiwan. Even so, the regulatory backdrop is starting to take shape. Financial Supervisory Commission chair Peng Jin-lung recently said Taiwan stablecoins would be issued on a priority basis by financial institutions, with the framework potentially launching as early as June 2026.

That leaves the acquisition with two layers of significance: consolidation in Taiwan’s delivery market, and a separate question over whether a super app that already supports crypto funding and Web3 wallet functions could extend that infrastructure into a new jurisdiction.
