Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) is actively studying an extension of night trading hours for derivatives, according to a new CEO blog post cited by Securities Times on Oct. 12. HKEX Chief Executive Bonnie Y Chan also outlined several other priorities in the post. They include a planned consultation on improving the listing regime for Specialist Technology Companies and GEM, as well as efforts to attract more international companies to pursue primary or secondary listings in Hong Kong. Chan also said HKEX and mainland Chinese partners are preparing to include real estate investment trusts, or REITs, in the Shanghai-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect program, while also working on adding RMB stock counters to Southbound Stock Connect. On the question of extending equity market trading hours, Chan said HKEX would begin by leading market discussions and look for a plan acceptable to all sides.
