In response, Hong Kong acting secretary for financial services and the treasury Christopher Hui said authorities would, where needed, take appropriate enforcement action under the relevant statutory regulatory framework to maintain financial stability and protect customers and the public.

Polymarket starts charging fees on geopolitical event trades

Polymarket’s trading interface shows that the platform has started charging fees on market orders for geopolitical event contracts. Limit orders remain free.

Its documentation has not yet been updated. The fee parameter for geopolitical events still appears as zero.

U.S. initial jobless claims come in at 197,000

Hong Kong SFC says virtual asset trading commission income fell 13.5%

Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission released a financial review of the securities industry showing solid growth in the first half of the year, with net profit rising 21% to HK$51.7 billion.

Total net commission income and interest income from securities trading, futures and options trading, leveraged foreign exchange trading and virtual asset trading rose 13% to HK$45.4 billion in the first half of 2026, up from HK$40.1 billion in the second half of 2025.

Within that, reported commission income from virtual asset trading in the first half of 2026 totaled HK$99.3 million, down HK$15.5 million from HK$114.8 million in the second half of 2025, a half-on-half decline of 13.5%.

South Korea to reassess 2027 virtual asset taxation

South Korean Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Lee Hyoung-il said the government would broadly collect views from the National Assembly, experts, industry participants and other stakeholders on the planned virtual asset tax set for 2027.
