On Wednesday, June 3, the Hyperliquid ecosystem token HYPE formally surpassed Solana (SOL) in price, marking a significant milestone for the decentralized perpetual exchange. Market data shows that HYPE reached an all-time high of $74.67 on Tuesday before pulling back slightly to around $73.15, still above SOL's $72.35 at the time.

SOL, meanwhile, has extended its slide to the lowest level since 2023, underscoring a period of weakness for the smart contract platform. The flip in token price highlights the rapid ascent of Hyperliquid within the decentralized derivatives space, although the two projects operate at vastly different scales.

Despite the price crossover, HYPE's market capitalization sits at just over $16 billion, still trailing Solana's approximately $42 billion by a factor of 2.6. This gap reflects Solana’s broader ecosystem and longer track record.

CoinShares noted in recent commentary that HYPE is one of the few crypto assets where token demand is directly tied to protocol activity. This means rising trading volumes on the Hyperliquid platform can translate into genuine buy pressure for HYPE, setting it apart from tokens driven largely by speculation.
