Iranian officials pushed back after U.S. President Donald Trump said on Aug. 14 that, after 「defeating Iran,」 he would soon 「declare the Strait of Hormuz to be U.S. territory.」 Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi said the Strait of Hormuz cannot be controlled through a social media post, an aircraft carrier, an executive order, or a campaign speech, adding that Iran is neither afraid of threats nor intimidated by force. On the same day, Ali Azmaei, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, said the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and is under the full control of Iran’s military. He added that the real situation should be seen on the ground, not in statements made by U.S. officials. The item was reported by Odaily, citing Jin10.
