Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Aug. 31 that Iranian armed forces had struck a U.S. military base in Jordan in response to what it described as a U.S. attack on Larak Island. The ministry said Iran would not hesitate to exercise what it called its inherent right of self-defense and would deliver an appropriate and firm response to any military aggression by its enemies. Tehran said the U.S. strikes on parts of Larak Island violated Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and were a clear breach of the United Nations Charter. It called on the U.N. Security Council and the U.N. secretary-general to fulfill their responsibility to maintain international peace and security and to hold the aggressor accountable. The ministry also said the United States and all parties supporting its military actions should bear full responsibility for the consequences of the escalation. It added that the U.S. base in Jordan had been used to launch and support attacks on Larak Island. In earlier reports, Tasnim News Agency said the Iranian military had launched dozens of drones toward Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, while Iranian state television said the military had used drones to strike the base early Monday.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Aug. 31 that Iranian armed forces attacked a U.S. military base in Jordan in response to a U.S. strike on Larak Island.

The ministry said Iran’s armed forces would not hesitate to exercise what it described as their inherent right of self-defense and would deliver an appropriate and firm response to any military aggression by its enemies. It also said U.S. strikes on parts of Larak Island violated Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity and clearly breached the United Nations Charter. Tehran called on the U.N. Security Council and the U.N. secretary-general to carry out their responsibility to maintain international peace and security and to hold the aggressor accountable.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry also said the United States and all parties backing its military actions should bear full responsibility for the consequences of the escalation. It added that the U.S. base in Jordan was used to launch and support attacks on Larak Island. The ministry said responsibility for what it called new U.S. aggression, as well as the continuing effects of a maritime blockade and economic war imposed on Iran, rests entirely with the United States and all parties involved in planning and carrying out those actions.

Earlier reports said, according to Tasnim News Agency, that the Iranian military had launched dozens of drones toward Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates. Iranian state television separately said the military used drones to strike Al Minhad Air Base early Monday.
