Decentralized storage protocol Irys has activated its Cascade feature on mainnet, adding flexible storage durations that let users choose between 30 days, one year, or permanent storage. Pricing now matches the selected term, with temporary storage costing notably less than permanent storage.
The rollout also includes partition recovery, a 24-hour commitment transaction window, and consensus-hardening fixes. Under the system, miners earn rewards by continuously proving they still hold the data. Once a chosen storage term ends, the stored data expires automatically and frees up space, while the block keeps a permanent record of the storage entry. The update expands Irys’ storage model on mainnet by pairing variable-duration storage with retained onchain records.
Irys, a decentralized storage protocol, said it has activated its Cascade feature on mainnet. Users can now choose storage terms of 30 days, one year, or permanent storage, and pay based on the selected duration. The protocol said temporary storage costs significantly less than permanent storage.
The feature also introduces partition recovery, a 24-hour commitment transaction window, and consensus-hardening fixes. Miners are rewarded for continuously proving they hold the data. After a storage term ends, the data expires automatically and space is released, while the block permanently retains the storage record.
