JPMorganChase and Coinbase announced a strategic partnership aimed at simplifying Bitcoin and crypto access. The partnership introduces three major features for mutual customers: direct bank-to-wallet connection via JPMorgan's secure API, Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer at a 1:1 ratio (100 points = $1) into Coinbase accounts for crypto purchases, and Chase credit card funding starting Fall 2025. The bank-to-wallet and rewards transfer features are expected to go live in 2026. JPMorgan is also exploring lending products backed by actual BTC, not just ETFs, marking its first direct acceptance of digital assets as collateral. CEO Jamie Dimon remains personally skeptical but the firm is leaning into consumer demand.

Partnership Overview and Key Features

JPMorganChase and Coinbase announced a strategic partnership to simplify Bitcoin and crypto access, according to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine. The partnership introduces three major features for mutual customers:

  • Direct Bank-to-Wallet Connection: Using JPMorgan’s secure API, Chase customers will be able to link their bank accounts directly to their Coinbase wallets, streamlining transfers and enhancing transactional confidence.
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards Transfer: Customers will soon be able to redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio—100 points for $1—directly into their Coinbase accounts for Bitcoin and crypto purchases.
  • Chase Credit Card Funding: Starting Fall 2025, customers will be able to use Chase credit cards to fund Coinbase accounts.

Both the bank-to-wallet and rewards transfer features are expected to go live in 2026.

Executive Comments and Significance

“This partnership marks a significant step forward in empowering our customers to take control of their financial futures,” said Melissa Feldsher, Head of Payments and Lending Innovation at JPMorganChase. “By joining forces with Coinbase, we are enhancing the security and privacy of our customers' data, allowing them to use their money and rewards in new and exciting ways.” Max Branzburg, Head of Consumer & Business Products at Coinbase, added, “We’re excited to partner with JPMorganChase to onboard the next generation of consumers into crypto. Together, we are expanding choice and lowering barriers to entry for consumers to participate in the future of financial services onchain.”

JPMorgan’s Evolving Digital Asset Strategy

The partnership comes as JPMorgan continues evolving its stance on digital assets. Just last week, the bank confirmed it is exploring lending products backed by actual BTC—not just ETFs. This would mark the first time JPMorgan would directly accept digital assets as collateral. Though CEO Jamie Dimon remains personally skeptical—saying in May, “I am not a fan of Bitcoin”—the firm is leaning into consumer demand. Its Bitcoin and crypto services now include factoring digital assets into net worth evaluations and supporting Bitcoin ETF collateral for loans.
