Kaito AI has introduced KAITO, a new cryptocurrency token designed to serve as the core asset of its information finance ecosystem, according to a newly released white paper. The project says the token is intended to help decentralize and optimize the digital attention economy by combining artificial intelligence with market-based coordination, shifting value away from centralized platforms and toward creators, users, and brands.

The launch is framed as a response to what Kaito describes as structural flaws in today’s attention markets. In the current model, large digital platforms typically control distribution, monetization, and data visibility. The white paper argues that these systems often reward platform operators disproportionately, while creators receive limited revenue participation and users generate value through engagement without direct compensation.

Information Finance as the Core Thesis

At the center of the proposal is the idea of information finance—a model that applies market forces to the discovery, pricing, and allocation of attention. Kaito says this approach can create a more transparent method for determining what content, narratives, and signals are valuable online. The concept has also been referenced by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, giving it broader recognition within crypto-native discussions about digital coordination.

Rather than relying solely on opaque recommendation algorithms, Kaito wants AI systems to identify and quantify forms of engagement that are difficult to measure in traditional settings. Examples cited in the white paper include brand sentiment, niche topic popularity, and other nuanced indicators of online attention. These signals could then be tokenized and turned into tradable market objects, enabling a more explicit pricing mechanism for visibility and influence.

What the KAITO Token Is Supposed to Do

Kaito assigns three main functions to the KAITO token. First, it is meant to incentivize participation through token-based rewards. Second, it is positioned as the primary currency of the network, likely serving as the medium through which attention-related value flows across the ecosystem. Third, it is designed to support governance, allowing token holders to vote on protocol changes and upgrades.

This governance layer is presented as a way to align the network’s evolution with the interests of its community instead of a centralized operator. In theory, that would make the system more responsive to users and less dependent on platform-controlled incentives. The white paper does not yet provide complete tokenomics, but it notes that additional details will be released later.

Yaps Protocol and the Tokenization of Attention

Kaito also points to its existing protocol, Yaps, which it says launched in December 2024. According to the announcement, Yaps has already enabled projects to tokenize attention for rewards and social finance use cases. This is presented as an early implementation of the broader information finance thesis, showing how engagement can move from a vague metric into something more directly measurable and economically actionable.

The project argues that conventional social media systems create several distortions: echo chambers driven by recommendation engines, weak monetization for creators, and no direct economic recognition for user participation. By introducing decentralized market mechanisms alongside AI-driven signal extraction, Kaito says it can offer a more balanced framework for distributing value among all parties involved in the production and circulation of information.

Using AI to Address the Long-Tail Problem

Another issue highlighted in the white paper is the so-called long-tail problem. In online media and digital communities, many valuable signals are fragmented across smaller niches and are difficult to aggregate or price efficiently. Kaito claims AI can help solve this by analyzing scattered datasets and surfacing patterns that would otherwise remain hidden.

The white paper mentions examples such as changes in NFT trends or shifts in brand perception over time. These are not always captured well by traditional engagement dashboards, but Kaito believes AI systems can convert such fragmented informational inputs into clearer attention signals. If those signals become economically legible, they can then be incorporated into decentralized markets and governance structures.

A Broader Bet on the Value of Attention

Kaito’s long-term vision describes information finance as evolving through several stages: first from disorganized data, then into AI-curated systems, and eventually into market-driven distribution networks. In that framework, AI acts as the layer that interprets noisy information, while crypto and token incentives create a mechanism for assigning value and coordinating participation.

The project anchors its thesis in the well-known idea from investor and entrepreneur Naval Ravikant that “attention is the currency of life.” Kaito argues that this notion becomes even more relevant in an era defined by accelerating AI-generated content and growing information overload. As more text, images, and media are produced at machine speed, the scarcity may no longer be content itself, but rather human attention and credible mechanisms for allocating it.

That is the market opportunity KAITO is trying to address. By proposing a tokenized, AI-assisted attention economy, Kaito is entering a growing category of crypto projects attempting to treat information flows as financial primitives. Whether the model can scale will likely depend on adoption, clarity around tokenomics, and the practical usefulness of the market signals generated by its system. For now, the white paper positions KAITO as the foundational asset in that experiment.
