Kbank has partnered with Ripple to roll out institutional-grade digital asset wallet infrastructure through Ripple Custody. The deployment brings multi-party computation, or MPC, into the bank’s wallet framework, allowing it to manage assets securely across multiple blockchain networks inside a regulated banking setting.
Under the arrangement, Kbank will use Ripple Custody’s wallet-as-a-service model rather than build the system on its own. The platform supports fast wallet creation and high-speed transaction signing, while giving the bank a way to scale digital asset management across chains. For banks, building comparable infrastructure internally can require heavy spending and ongoing operational work. Kbank is using Ripple’s stack to avoid that burden.
External custody stack speeds up launch
The setup lets Kbank move ahead without operating the full infrastructure in-house, while keeping institutional security controls in place. That changes the timeline. Instead of developing custody and signing architecture from scratch, the bank can push wallet services into production more quickly.
The move also broadens Kbank’s position in the crypto sector. Kbank is already the exclusive banking partner for Upbit, one of South Korea’s largest exchanges. With this integration, its role extends past standard banking support and into deeper digital asset infrastructure, including custody, wallet operations, and blockchain-based financial services.
Stablecoin remittances enter the picture
According to Choi Woo-hyung, the initiative supports Kbank’s efforts around stablecoin-based remittances. His comments tied the partnership to cross-border payment upgrades built on blockchain technology, pointing to a more direct link between digital asset infrastructure and the bank’s financial operations.
Ripple’s Fiona Murray said the deal reflects rising demand for scalable digital asset infrastructure. She added that Ripple Custody offers a broader stack that includes custody, payments, and treasury tools, not just wallet support.
Korea remains a key institutional market for Ripple
Ripple said South Korea is a key market for institutional adoption of blockchain systems. With this deployment, Kbank becomes the first internet-only bank in Korea to use Ripple Custody infrastructure. For Ripple, the agreement adds another institutional use case in the country. For Kbank, it marks a wider push into digital asset services.
