Kraken has announced an integration with ICE Chat, the instant messaging platform operated by Intercontinental Exchange, giving institutional traders a direct channel to Kraken’s OTC desk from within ICE’s existing communications network. The company said the setup brings its OTC execution capabilities into established institutional workflows and is intended to reduce onboarding and communication friction across crypto spot and options markets.
According to the announcement, ICE Chat serves a network of more than 120,000 clients. Those users can now engage Kraken’s OTC desk inside the same real-time messaging environment already used across major financial centres. Kraken said the integration is aimed at professional trading desks that want access to OTC liquidity while keeping communication and execution aligned with institutional operating and compliance standards.
OTC crypto execution moves into a familiar institutional workflow
ICE Chat is widely used on institutional trading desks as a compliant channel for execution-related conversations. By placing its OTC desk directly inside that system, Kraken is moving closer to the workflow environment many global market participants already use every day. Gurpreet Oberoi, Head of Kraken Institutional, said the integration gives traders a direct line to Kraken’s OTC execution team through an interface they already know, cutting the need to switch across multiple systems.
That matters in OTC markets. Liquidity is one part of the decision, but firms also look for efficient execution, fast connectivity, and predictable operations when choosing where to trade large orders.
ICE Chat highlights compliance and data-ready messaging tools
ICE framed the platform as an always-on messaging service built for trading environments. Maurisa Baumann, ICE Head of Global Data Delivery Platforms, said ICE Chat includes AI-powered Smart Text Recognition that can turn text-based communications into actionable data. In heavily scrutinised markets, messaging systems are not just used for conversations; they also sit inside the broader operational control structure.
That compliance-focused setting could lower the barrier for institutions still evaluating crypto market participation. Instead of adopting a separate communications tool built outside their normal process, firms can approach Kraken from inside an environment already shaped around auditability and workflow control.
Kraken targets deeper institutional distribution as TradFi and crypto converge
Kraken said its OTC desk has continued to grow as traditional finance and digital assets move closer together. For many institutions, OTC execution remains a preferred route for larger trades because it can reduce market impact, offer greater privacy, and support tailored liquidity sourcing. Kraken also said it is the first cryptocurrency platform approved to connect to ICE Chat, describing the integration as a strategic step in widening institutional distribution.
The company added that it expects to expand the relationship through additional initiatives over time. The announcement also points to a broader pattern: legacy market infrastructure groups such as ICE are extending their presence in digital assets through connectivity, data, and workflow platforms rather than only through direct exchange operations.
