Following the success of its Devnet phase, LayerEdge proudly announces the launch of its Incentivized Testnet, marking a major milestone in the mission to build a Bitcoin-backed internet. The Testnet advances LayerEdge's vision of extending Bitcoin's unparalleled security guarantees through groundbreaking technology and a modular approach to trust-minimized verification.

Devnet Highlights

The Devnet phase delivered impressive results:

  • 24,000+ batches processed
  • 240,000+ proofs verified
  • $2 million in estimated cost savings
  • 8+ protocols secured and aggregated

This performance showcased the transformative potential of shared verification and zero-knowledge proof aggregation, laying the groundwork for the Testnet launch.

Core Features of the Testnet

LayerEdge leverages Bitcoin's security as a Babylon's Bitcoin Secured Network (BSN), anchored by staked BTC, to enable a trustless and modular BitVM implementation. Core capabilities include:

  • Efficient proof aggregation at scale
  • Modular BitVM infrastructure
  • Robust Bitcoin-backed security through Babylon
  • Universal verification systems

Proofs from top protocols like Avail, Bitfinity, and others are currently being aggregated and secured on Bitcoin Signet via LayerEdge.

Integration with RISC Zero's zkVM

The Testnet integrates RISC Zero's zkVM technology into its ZK proof aggregation platform, unlocking significant advantages in scalability, efficiency, and development flexibility. By leveraging advanced ZK Coprocessors and built-in GPU acceleration, LayerEdge enables efficient off-chain computation, reducing gas costs significantly while maintaining robust security. Composite and recursive circuits ensure rapid and scalable proof generation, benefiting from mature toolchains and a Rust-based development environment.

Light Node Verification and Rewards

Users can run a light node on top of the network to verify proofs at leaf level during aggregation, before the state transition is settled on Bitcoin Signet, while earning rewards. The verification mechanism uses stochastic sampling of proofs, detailed in the whitepaper.

Testnet Rollout Plan

LayerEdge is rolling out the Testnet in two strategic phases:

  1. Closed Testnet: Live now, with a 6-day stress-testing period open to select participants.
  2. Public Beta: Full public rollout on January 28, 2025.

Note: The implementation of trust-minimized verification on Bitcoin (BitVM based) is still a work in progress. The Testnet supports settlement of the final aggregated proof in the format of a cenotaph rune, but not yet full on-chain verification. This gradual rollout enables stress-testing and bug identification.

Developers and users are invited to join the Testnet, experience the enhanced dashboard, participate in quests, run a light node, and earn LayerEdge Points.
