Techub News, citing Bitcoinist.com, reported that Maelstrom, the family office of BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes, has published the first annual report for its Bitcoin grant program. The report says the program has supported five developers over the past 20 months, with four of them currently active in Bitcoin Core code review and privacy technology development.
According to the report, the annual grant cap is $400,000 per developer. Among the funded developers, two focus on Bitcoin Core code review and fixes for consensus-critical vulnerabilities. One of them, Rkrux, posted 1,155 code review comments in 2025, according to the disclosed figures.
The report also states that two other funded developers are working on privacy infrastructure, including Payjoin and MuSig2. Maelstrom distributes the grants monthly in bitcoin, with the program aimed at strengthening the security and privacy of the Bitcoin network. The annual report marks the first structured disclosure of the family office’s Bitcoin developer funding activity.
