Magic Eden is narrowing its focus to the Solana blockchain and its crypto gambling platform Dicey, while winding down various Bitcoin and Ethereum services. CEO Jack Lu announced on X that the marketplace will streamline to focus exclusively on Packs and Solana, doubling down on Dicey, a crypto casino and sportsbetting project.

Timeline of Sunsetting Services

The company plans to end support for its EVM and Bitcoin marketplaces on March 9, followed by the Bitcoin API on March 27 and the Magic Eden Wallet on April 1. This means the platform will fully exit trading of Bitcoin Ordinals, Runes, and Ethereum NFTs.

Dicey’s Early Success

Dicey’s closed beta has reached approximately 200 users and generated over $15 million in total wagers within two months. “We are now 2 months into Dicey’s closed beta and are incredibly bullish on how things have developed,” Lu stated. The shift involves phasing out NFT buybacks to prioritize ecosystem design and future yield initiatives for the ME token.

ME Token Remains Central

Despite the pivot, the ME token will continue to serve as the primary utility token for both Magic Eden and Dicey, facilitating user engagement and rewards. The move signals a broader transition from a pure NFT marketplace toward a diversified crypto entertainment ecosystem.

Industry analysts note that while abandoning Bitcoin and Ethereum NFT markets may alienate some collectors, focusing on Solana and gambling could provide more stable revenue streams. Dicey’s initial wagering volume suggests significant potential for growth in the crypto gambling sector.
