Mastercard Taiwan announced on March 16 a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Fusheng Digital, a wholly owned subsidiary of Taiwan Mobile, targeting three key areas: integrating Crypto Credential to streamline on-chain transfers, bridging virtual assets with bank accounts, and strengthening digital asset settlement infrastructure. TWEX, the exchange launched in May 2025 and opened to all users in January this year, is the project’s foundation. Fusheng Digital’s parent company chose Mastercard to turn crypto from an exchange-only asset into a daily spending tool.

Three Solutions, Three Pain Points

Crypto Credential tackles the biggest headache in on-chain transfers: long, error-prone wallet addresses. It replaces them with user aliases combined with identity verification, slashing the risk of irreversible loss from a single mistyped character.

Multi-Token Network (MTN) acts as a bridge linking blockchains with traditional finance. Banks and financial institutions can access cross-ecosystem digital asset settlement via APIs—this powers the seamless connection between virtual assets and bank accounts.

The Crypto Card Program targets consumers directly: holders can spend virtual assets at 150 million Mastercard merchants globally without first converting to fiat. These three tools form the complete roadmap described in the MOU. Mastercard Taiwan Managing Director Chen Yiwen said the partners will jointly research the three scenarios, using globally deployed solutions. This could soon let Taiwan users buy coffee or gas with crypto directly, skipping complex exchange withdrawal steps.
