MegaETH has launched its mainnet, introducing an Ethereum Layer 2 built around throughput and low-latency execution. The project says the network can handle up to 50,000 transactions per second, with a 10-millisecond block time, as it tries to improve user experience while taking pressure off Ethereum’s base layer.
Most transaction activity is moved off Ethereum’s base chain
The network works by shifting most transaction processing away from Ethereum mainnet and then sending transaction data back to Ethereum for final settlement. Ethereum’s base layer usually processes around 15 to 30 transactions per second, so MegaETH is positioning its design as a way to keep Ethereum security while raising transaction capacity by a wide margin.
MegaETH uses an optimized rollup structure together with a high-speed sequencer to organize transactions. The project says all transaction data is published on Ethereum, allowing public verification. That architecture is meant to increase speed without dropping transparency or the security assumptions tied to settlement on Ethereum.
Testnet phase processed more than 500 million simulated transactions
Before the mainnet launch, MegaETH went through an extended testnet period. According to the project, the network handled more than 500 million simulated transactions during testing. Developers used that phase to check stability and address technical weaknesses before the production rollout.
The launch also puts attention on whether the system can maintain those performance figures under real user demand. MegaETH is targeting developers that need fast and low-cost execution, including decentralized exchanges, blockchain games, and social applications. It also says the network is fully compatible with Ethereum tools and wallets, which could make migration easier for existing projects.
Security audits and decentralized sequencer are on the roadmap
The team plans to enter a stability and security audit phase in Q2 2025, with independent firms reviewing the system for weaknesses. That stage is framed around long-term reliability and user trust. MegaETH also plans to release a decentralized sequencer in the second half of 2025, reducing reliance on a single operator for transaction ordering.
After the announcement, activity across Layer 2 tokens and projects increased. The source said some market observers linked that move to confidence in Ethereum’s scaling direction. With the mainnet now live, the next measure for MegaETH will be how the network performs as real traffic builds.
