Memecoins have started 2026 with renewed momentum, led by DOGE, SHIB, and PEPE as prices and trading activity pick up across the sector. CryptoQuant said memecoin dominance within the altcoin market dropped to around 3.2% in December 2025, down sharply from nearly 11% at the November 2024 peak. Since the beginning of 2026, that ratio has turned upward, pointing to easing sell pressure and a return of risk appetite.

Market cap and volume show broader participation

CoinGecko data shows the total memecoin market cap at about $51.1 billion, up roughly 4.5% over the last 24 hours. Trading volume has moved above $8.2 billion. That combination suggests the move is being supported by active participation rather than a low-volume bounce.

Dog-themed tokens remain the largest force inside the category. This segment alone accounts for more than $33 billion in value, keeping it as the most influential group in the memecoin market and a key driver of current price action.

Large caps and mid-caps are rising together

Among major tokens, PEPE led with a 65% gain over a week. DOGE rose nearly 18% in the same period, breaking a long weak stretch, while SHIB added almost 16%. Strength also extended to mid-caps: BONK climbed 45% and FLOKI advanced 37% during the week.

The spread of gains across both established names and mid-sized tokens suggests the move is not isolated to a single asset. Capital is rotating through a wider part of the memecoin market.

Top gainers reflect stronger risk appetite

Smaller tokens posted even sharper moves. good morning surged more than 770%. DATBOI recorded an almost 95% monthly increase, while PONKE rose 88%. BROCCOLI, a dog-themed memecoin, gained more than 57% in a day, with trading volume crossing $200 million and market cap reaching nearly $29 million.

BROCCOLI drew attention because dog-themed tokens have often acted as early leaders during previous memecoin rallies. Its move back into the list of top gainers adds to the view that speculative appetite is returning.

The rebound is visible, but still in its early phase

This price recovery follows almost a year of weaker interest in the category. The source material notes that social chatter is rising again and traders are showing more willingness to take risk in low- and mid-cap meme tokens. Even so, the rally remains at an early stage. If trading volumes fade or broader industry conditions weaken, the advance could lose momentum. Bitcoin stability and continued retail participation remain two key signals to watch.
